To change your password in Insight, go to the Menu Bar and click on File. Then click on Special, and select Change Password. You will need to enter your current password, and then your new password twice. The password is case sensitive, so be aware of whether you are entering upper case or lower case letters. The password can be three to eight characters in length, and can include numbers.
Insight keeps track of all the menu masks and screens you have used during your current Insight session. These are stored in the TypeAhead/History Box on the icon bar in Insight. You can quickly navigate to one of the previous masks or screens by finding it in the TypeAhead/History Box and clicking that item.
Do you ever open Insight and are presented with a ‘gray’ screen – none of your menu options show up? Just click on the
house icon
. Your Explorer Mode screen will appear along with all your menu options.
Message "IFAS Job is already active"
Have you ever gotten this pop-up message while in Insight: “IFAS Job is already active. Stop Job or start new Insight
session.”? If so, it means you already have an active data entry screen, or you have a job running in interactive mode.
To clear the pop-up, click ‘OK’, and then check to see what is already active. You can click to Screen Mode
,
, or click to Output Mode
, to see what is already active.
If you need to have more than one data entry screen active at a time, you will need to launch a second Insight session.
, the ‘white paper’
. , the
‘screen’
, and the ‘running man’
. The ‘house’
,
also known as Explorer Mode, is the standard view of Insight that
lets you select from the different IFAS modules and masks that your userid has access to.
, also known as Output Mode, lets you see the history of what has been happening behind the
scenes during your current Insight session. This is the view that can show error messages that are helpful in
determining the cause of certain Insight problems. This is also the view that will allow you to review IFAS reports
that you send to your terminal for viewing rather than to a printer.
, appropriately known as Screen Mode, will turn blue when you are using a classic data entry screen
in Insight. You can only be using one classic data entry screen at a time in a single Insight session, although you
can launch an unlimited number of 7i (browser-based screens) at a time in a single Insight session.
, allows you to select from CDD (Click, Drag, and Drill) reports available to your Insight
userid. Selecting CDD reports by this method, rather than from the IFAS menu tree in Explorer Mode, gives you the
option of sending a report to your PC screen, to a local printer,
or to a file.
Have you ever wanted to minimize your Insight screen but couldn’t because you had a dialogue box or question box open?
You can use the Show Desktop feature of Windows on your PC to minimize Insight, even with a dialogue/question box open.
Go to the Windows Task Bar, which is the bottom line of your Windows desktop, and click your right mouse button.
It will bring up an options box, and if you click on “Show the Desktop” from that options box, all the programs you
have open on your PC will be minimized, even Insight. You can also accomplish the same thing by holding down the
Windows logo key ( Have you ever wondered how those 4-digit numbers that correspond to Blinn terms are assigned? There is actually a logical scheme used to create those numbers.
Let’s take the term code 2073 as an example. The first digit designates the century and the second and third digit designates the calendar year. So in our example, ‘207’ translates to 2007. If our example were 1983, that would translate to 1998.
The fourth digit designates a specific semester or quarter during the academic year, with academic years running September through August.
Blinn semesters are numbered as:
1=Spring
3=Summer I
5=Summer II
6=Fall
Blinn quarters (used by Workforce Education and the TEACH program) are numbered as:
2=Quarter 3 (March-May)
4=Quarter 4 (June-August)
7=Quarter 1 (September-November)
8=Quarter 2 (December-February)
So in our example, term code of 2073 translates to Summer I 2007 of the academic year 2006-2007. The term code of 2077 translates to Quarter
1 2007 of the academic year 2007-2008.
With the recent innovations in course scheduling at Blinn, namely the minimesters offered in December 2006 and May 2007, and 8-week classes to be offered in certain Math, Philosophy, and English courses on the Bryan campus this coming Fall term, we have assigned additional notation to courses to distinguish the multiple schedules within the usual 4-digit Blinn term code.
The additional notation is called a Session, and there can be multiple Sessions within a single term. Each Session has its own start date, end date, census date (day of record), and registration dates.
When courses for a term are created in Insight, they now must have a 2-character Session code assigned to them.
The Session codes in use currently include:
When viewing Class Openings in BORIS, students will find the classes available for these multiple schedules by selecting on the session options from the drop-down Session selection box, or by choosing “All Sessions” for a selected term.
When running CDD reports that require a Session code, use ‘*’ to select all Sessions for a selected term, or select a specific Session by using the 2-character code for that Session.
May minimesters and Summer 10-week sessions are both Sessions in the Summer I term and December minimesters are Sessions in the Spring term.
The August and October 8-week sessions are part of the Fall term, although the enrollment reporting for the October 8-week session will be part of the spring report to the Coordinating Board.
When doing data entry on an Insight screen that belongs to one of the student modules, and you are unsure what the valid values for a particular data field are, you can use the Pick List feature that is available on many of the fields.
Position your cursor on a data field, and then press F3 or click on the Pick List icon
) then pressing the D key. Give it a try!
from the Insight tool bar. If a Pick List is available for that data field, the valid values will be displayed for you in a pop-up window that you can browse through. Double-click on the value you want to select, and it will be populated into the data field on the data entry screen for you.
Remember to press Enter or click the Save icon
from the Insight tool bar to have your changes saved to the database.
